How to Create a Video With AI Storyboard

Modified on Wed, 2 Sep at 3:45 PM

Overview

AI Storyboard is Elai's AI-driven way to turn a topic, link, or existing document into a ready-made, interactive video with an AI-generated script and quiz questions.

You can write a short prompt and let Elai generate a full script and slide set for you, plus optional AI quiz questions built directly from your topic. Also, you can turn a URL into a video, and Elai pulls the key points from the page into an engaging script, carrying over media from the original source where available. With AI Storyboard, you can paste in an existing document or block of text, and Elai turns it into a matching script and slide set. Or you can start from scratch and build your story in a few clicks, using Elai's built-in AI assistance.

Once Elai generates your outline, you can review and refine it. Then move on to a full script, edit your story, and convert it into slides. Finally, continue into the editor to finish building your video. For details on editing your outline once it's generated, see How to Edit Your Video as a Story.

Getting Started with the AI Storyboard Creator

  1. From your Elai home page, click Create Video.

  1. In the Create New Video window, click Create with AI storyboard.

Once this option is selected, choose one of the four methods below depending on the content you already have.

Generate a Video From Topic

  1. Click From Topic.

  2. Type a short description of the video you want to create.

  1. Turn on Generate Quiz if you want Elai to add quiz questions throughout your video, then set the number of questions, their placement, format, and question type.

Note: AI Quiz Generation requires an Enterprise plan. Learn About AI Quiz Generation

  1. Once you’re ready, click Generate.

  2. Review the outline AI creates. Edit any bullet point directly, or click Add Point to add more detail under a section.

  1. Click Next to generate a full script from your outline. The script will serve as speech for your video slides.

  1. To edit the generated video, choose a video template by clicking Open editor or Review storyboard, or simply select Continue with default

  1. Polish your video and render it.

Generate a Video From URL

  1. Click From URL.

  2. Paste the link to a blog post or webpage into the text box.

Note: An error occurs if the URL leads to a page with blocked parsing or anti-bot protection. Try a different source if this happens.

  1. Click Generate.

Note: This method does not include an option to generate quiz questions automatically. You can still add quizzes manually once you reach the video editor.

  1. Polish the text for the slides.

Note: Elai uses the text from the URL to generate speech for each slide, and carries over media from the source where available. You can edit the generated speech text and swap out any media once you reach the editor.

  1. To edit the generated video, choose a video template by clicking Change template or Convert to slides, or simply select Continue with default.

  1. Apply new template and click Convert to slides

  2. Polish your video and render it.

Generate a Video From Text

  1. Click From Text.

  2. Copy the text you want to use from Google Docs, a Word document, or any other source.

  3. Paste the copied text into the box.

  4. Click Generate.

Note: If you copy text directly from a webpage, formatting artifacts such as HTML tags may be pasted along with the content.

Note: This method does not include an option to generate quiz questions automatically. You can still add quizzes manually once you reach the editor.

Note: List formats such as bulleted lists, numbered lists, and checklists cannot be parsed. Before copying your text, switch any lists to Normal text style and add numbers or dashes manually so Elai can parse them correctly into AI Storyboard.

Note: If your text has no distinct headings, all of its content may be placed on a single slide. To split content across multiple slides, either add headings in a text editor, or manually divide the content across slides once you're in AI Storyboard.

For the best results, apply a distinct heading style, such as Heading 3, to each section title, and keep the body text in Normal text style. Elai separates your content into slides based on these formatting differences, so a document with three headings and normal-text sections beneath each one generates three slides.

  1. Polish the text for the slides.

  1. To edit the generated video, choose a video template by clicking Change template or Convert to slides, or simply select Continue with default

  1. Apply new template and click Convert to slides

  2. Polish your video and render it.

Generate a Video From Scratch

With this option, you build your story manually instead of generating it from existing content. You can choose slide designs, write your script one slide at a time, and use built-in AI assistance to refine your content as you go.

  1. Click From scratch.

  1. Click Get Started! to open a blank story.

Elai opens a single slide with a placeholder header, image, and speech text for you to fill in. Click the plus icon beneath a slide to add more slides as you build out your story.

Note: This method does not include an option to generate quiz questions automatically. You can still add quizzes manually once you reach the editor.

  1. Polish the text for the slides.

  2. To edit the generated video, choose a video template by clicking Change template or Convert to slides, or simply select Continue with default.

  3. Apply new template and click Convert to slides

  4. Polish your video and render it.

FAQ

What's the difference between the four ways to start an AI Storyboard video?
From Topic generates a script from a short prompt and is the only method that supports automatic quiz generation. From URL and From Text generate a script from existing content you provide. From Scratch lets you build your story manually, slide by slide, with AI assistance along the way.

Can I add quizzes if I create my video from a URL, text, or from scratch?
Not automatically. These three methods don't include automatic quiz generation, but you can still add quizzes manually once you reach the video editor.

Does Elai keep the media from my source when I generate a video from a URL?
Yes. Elai carries over media from the source where available, and you can swap it out once you reach the editor.

Can I edit the text or speech that Elai generates?
Yes, across all four methods, you can polish the generated text for your slides.
